SmartMeter

SmartMeter can perform in-depth tests on website projects and applications, to determine how much time is needed to load a page on a web browser. The software lets you define, tweak and manage test cases and it is quite flexible in this regard. All tests are performed in real time and you are provided with highly detailed reports, so you can easily figure out if there are any improvements to be made.

The software is free to try for a limited period of time, after which you will have to pay a monthly or yearly subscription. Its setup package is rather large and it may take about a minute or two to download it. Fortunately, the installation process doesn't involve anything more than extracting the software's components from a ZIP archive.

When launched, SmartMeter will display a compact control panel, from which you can start creating a new test scenario or load existing test and monitor scripts. Another possibility is to record a test scenario. This involves loading a website on the main user interface and navigating through its pages, like a normal user, or trying to stress it and find its limits. Each time you click on something, the action will be recorded and displayed on the right side of the interface.

Once you start a test, you will receive a large amount of information in real time, represented in graphs and tables. Also, you can make a few settings during a test, to establish new base lines or force limits. An editor can be found on the same interface, on a different tab, where you can manipulate every little aspect of the entire test scenario.

When a test is complete, you can generate a report right away, with a single click. It is stored in HTML format on your hard drive and loaded automatically on your default web browser. The report includes a detailed results analysis, complete with all charts and everything else you need.
